Description
The Hebe model is a special Turkish spindle that doesn’t fit within the standard size categories. As the smallest in the collection, it is named after the Greek goddess of youth. The Hebe is perfect for spinning the finest yarns, such as cobweb, and excels with fibers that have a short staple length or are particularly smooth, like silk. With its narrow cross and high spinning speed, this spindle offers a one-of-a-kind spinning experience.
Not sure which model or weight to choose?
Are you new to spinning and unsure which model or weight suits you best? The Hebe model featured on this page is slightly less forgiving than other models, making it particularly well-suited for experienced spinners. If you’re less experienced but still eager to try the Hebe, don’t worry! Start with the Park & Draft method to get comfortable with spinning at your own pace.

Features of the Hebe Model
The Hebe is specifically designed for spinning ultra-fine yarns, such as cobweb and laceweight. Its narrow cross allows for faster spinning compared to spindles with wider arms, making it ideal for fibers that require high twist, such as silk or fibers with short staple lengths. The lightweight design makes it highly maneuverable, but it also requires more control from the spinner, making it particularly suitable for experienced spinners. Its compact size also makes it perfect for spinning on the go.
Differences and Similarities with Size 1
At the bottom of the page, you’ll find a table summarizing the key features of the Hebe model and Size 1 spindles. It highlights the similarities and differences at a glance.
The Hebe and the Size 1 Turkish spindles have comparable weights but differ in design and spinning performance. The Hebe’s narrow cross enables higher spinning speeds, while the wider arms of the Size 1 provide greater stability during spinning. Both models are excellent for spinning ultra-fine yarns like cobweb and laceweight, but the Hebe stands out for its precision with fibers requiring high twist, such as silk and short-staple fibers like yak and cashmere.
While both are compact and lightweight, the Hebe’s specific features make it more suited for experienced spinners who are accustomed to faster and slightly less forgiving spindles. Size 1, on the other hand, is slightly more versatile and accessible, making it a better choice for spinners looking for a broader range of uses.
The Shaft and Finishing
As with my other models, the Hebe features a shaft with a thickened tip, making it easy to secure your single yarn. The shafts are crafted from walnut or hickory. Thanks to hickory’s high density and resilience, these spindles are incredibly durable and resistant to wear and tear.
Each spindle is finished with a high-quality hardwax oil. This treatment preserves the wood’s natural appearance, provides a soft sheen, and ensures excellent protection.
Quality and Shipping
The Turkish spindle you receive will be similar to the one shown in the photos. Before shipping, I carefully inspect each spindle for balance and finish to ensure it meets the highest standards.
The Hebe is shipped in a fitting, charming, old, and – importantly – recycled tin. This tin is not only sustainable but also practical for safely storing or carrying your spindle when spinning on the go.
