Description

A spindle with weight and history. In Kauri, the Athena is exceptionally powerful. The weight distribution across the arms ensures a longer spin.

  • The Vibe: Warm, historical, and stable.
  • The Wood: Thousands of years old, with a golden glow that almost seems to shine as the spindle spins.
  • Match: Your go-to for fine to medium threads. Perfect for spinners who prefer a heavier size 2.

Size & Weight (Kauri)

While the Maple or Cherry versions in size 2 are lighter, this Kauri edition is a bit heavier at 16-18 grams. This spindle has more of a “will of its own” and keeps spinning longer without requiring constant correction. It is the ideal transition if a size 1 feels too light, but you find a size 3 too bulky.

Size Weight Diameter Your Spinning Experience
2 16 – 18 gram 10 cm Powerful. Lots of mass for this size; rotates very predictably.

Why Kauri?

Kauri is rare and golden, but what makes it truly special is the texture. For the tactile ASMR lovers: this wood is extremely smooth and silky against your fingers. Zero interruptions. It’s the heavy, smooth counterpart to Olive Ash; without the stripes, but with the same mass.

The design: Model Athena

Named after the goddess of wisdom.
The design is sleek and effective. While other models chase speed, the Athena is all about control. Because the 16-18 grams are distributed across the arms, the flow remains constant, even if you lose focus for a moment.

The details

  • The Shaft: Hickory or walnut with the smart taper to keep your single in place.
  • The Finish: Natural hardwax-oil. This brings out the deep golden color without losing the natural touch.
  • Sustainability: I only work with protected, legally collected pieces of this rare tree.
