Description
The Athena Elm is a true game-changer. It’s often sold out in size 3 for a reason: it’s incredibly light (around 20-22 grams), meaning it weighs as little as a size 2, but offers a completely different experience. The spin is calmer and more consistent.
- The Vibe: Chill, light, and steady.
- The Wood: Elm is local luxury; the flaming pattern is unique, and you can actually feel the grain under your fingers.
- Match: Your go-to for a calm, even spinning experience that lasts for a surprisingly long time.
Size & Weight (Elm)
Elm wood is the king of weight ratios. You really notice the difference in size 3: it weighs almost nothing (20-22g), but thanks to the Athena’s rim-weighted design, it keeps going like a charm. Size 2, at roughly 12 grams, is perfect for those who love a truly light spin.
| Size | Weight | Diameter | Your Spinning Experience |
| 1 | 8 – 9 gram | 7,5 cm | Small but mighty. Spin fine yarns with a surprisingly momentum. |
| 2 | ~ 12 grams | 10 cm | Super-light precision; for those who love speed and thin yarns. |
| 3 | 20 – 22 grams | 12 cm | The lightweight flex; a large spindle that feels super light but remains incredibly stable. |
Why Elm?
Elm is a favorite because it’s local and full of character. The “flames” in the wood aren’t just for show; they provide the tactile feedback that makes elm so satisfying to use. In the Athena shape, you get a rotation that is much calmer and more even than a smaller spindle, simply because the weight is distributed over a larger diameter.
The design: Model Athena
Named after the goddess of wisdom.
The Athena is my most streamlined design, fully focused on rim-weight distribution. While the Artemis draws power from its core, the Athena gets its strength from its width. This creates that endless rotation. The combination with light elm wood results in a unique tool that you barely feel, yet it does all the heavy lifting for you.
The details
- The Shaft: Hickory with the smart taper to keep your single in place.
- The Finish: Natural hardwax-oil. This protects the flaming grain while keeping the wood tactile.
- Sustainability: 100% local wood. Sustainability you can feel.
