Description
Maximum size, minimum weight. The Athena Cherry is the lightest combination in my studio. A large spindle that weighs next to nothing, yet spins for a remarkably long time due to its wide rim. My personal favorite right now, I simply can’t put it down.
- The Vibe: Light, warm, and effortless.
- The Wood: Cherry is feather-light and has a soft, warm tone that only gets more beautiful with age.
- Match: Your go-to when you want a large spindle that holds a lot of fiber without straining your wrists.
Size & Weight (Cherry)
Cherry is the lightest wood in the collection. Since the Athena is the most streamlined model, this results in the lightest spindle per size you can find. A size 4 at less than 30 grams is truly lightweight: plenty of storage capacity without much weight (though the spindle will get heavier as you fill it up, of course).
| Size | Weight | Diameter | Your Spinning Experience |
| 2 | 15 – 18 gram | 10 cm | Efficient by design. A mid-weight spinner with a remarkably long run-time. |
| 3 | 20 – 23 grams | 12 cm | The ultimate lightweight; a large diameter providing a stable, calm spin at just 20 grams. |
| 4 | 26 – 29 grams | 13,5 cm | Very light for this size; perfect for spinning large volumes on a lightweight tool. |
Why Cherry?
Cherry wood is a joy to handle and spin with. It’s silky smooth and deepens in color when exposed to sunlight. The combination with the Athena design is special: you have an enormous reach, making the spindle very stable, while the total weight stays incredibly low. The result is a spin that feels very natural and airy.
The design: Model Athena
Named after the goddess of wisdom.
The Athena is sleek and minimalistic. In this model, the mass is distributed more towards the outer rim, ensuring a very efficient spin. In cherry wood, this means you have a large, wide spindle that rotates slowly and evenly—perfect for hours of spinning without fatigue.
The details
- The Shaft: Hickory with the smart taper to keep your single in place.
- The Finish: Natural hardwax-oil. This protects the light cherry wood while letting you feel the silky-soft texture.
- Sustainability: Responsibly sourced wood from the region.

- About the photos: Cherry has a calm grain but can feature small color accents. Your spindle will slowly become slightly darker and warmer in color due to light exposure.
