Dark looks without the wrist workout. The Artemis Mansonia is a lightweight flex: dark, smooth, and rescued from waste. The ultimate stable spindle for those who want that luxury “dark academia” vibe without the drag.

Description

The Artemis Mansonia is the ultimate mind-trick. Although the wood looks dark and heavy, its weight is surprisingly low. The perfect move if you want the vibe of a solid, dark spindle without it becoming a workout for your wrists.

  • The Vibe: Chill, dark, and surprisingly light.
  • The Wood: Mansonia ranges from deep brown to gold and grey. It’s smooth, with zero grain to be felt.
  • Match: For those who love the dark academia aesthetic but want a nice, light spin.

Size & Weight (Mansonia)

Mansonia breaks the rules: usually, dark wood is heavy, but this wood keeps things airy. Even in the solid Artemis model, these weights remain very easy on your joints.

Size Weight Diameter Your Spinning Experience
2 15 – 17 grams 7,5 cm Golden lightweight; ideal for thin singles and speed.
3 29 – 32 gram 10 cm Deep brown powerhouse; the looks of a heavy spindle, the workflow of cherry.

Why Mansonia?

This wood has a special story: it is sourced through “by-catch” harvesting. It was essentially in the way, but because the grain is so beautiful and resembles walnut, we save it for the studio. The result is a unique touch: not quite as mirror-smooth as Kauri, but definitely no rough grain. In terms of softness, it sits somewhere between cherry and walnut. Every piece is unique; from golden size 2s to deep brown size 3s. It’s a spindle that radiates luxury without putting unnecessary tension on your yarn.

The design: Model Artemis

Named after the goddess of the hunt.
The Artemis is sleek and focused. Because Mansonia has less mass than its color suggests, this spindle is quite responsive. Perfect for spinners who like to maintain total control over their flow.

The details

  • The Shaft: Hickory or walnut with the smart taper to keep your single in place.
  • The Finish: Natural hardwax-oil. This beautifully brings out the different color nuances of the Mansonia.
  • Sustainability: “Rescue wood” sourced via by-catch. Zero waste, and better for our planet.
