Description

Heavyweight with allure. The Aphrodite Olive is, second only to Caribbean Rosewood, the heaviest spindle in my studio. No complicated stories: this is an overall heavy spindle because olive wood is incredibly dense. A powerful tool with an iconic look.

  • The Vibe: Massive, luxurious, and present.
  • The Wood: Olive wood is very compact and heavy. The wild, erratic grain makes every spindle a unique piece.
  • Match: Your go-to if you love a heavy spindle that feels solid in your hand. Perfect for those who want to feel grip and weight while spinning.

Size & Weight (Olive)

Olive wood is at the top tier of my heaviest woods. Because the Aphrodite model is a bit fuller than the Athena, the weight adds up here. This spindle is simply heavy across the board, providing a calm and powerful spin.

Why Olive?

Olive wood is a favorite due to its immense density and spectacular looks. You feel the weight immediately; it gives the spindle a calm rotation that is less sensitive to small vibrations. The wild grains aren’t just beautiful; the dense structure also makes the spindle super smooth. Olive wood almost feels a bit greasy to the touch, even though it isn’t actually, of course.

The design: Model Aphrodite

Named after the goddess of love and beauty.
The Aphrodite is my most versatile design. Where the Artemis has the mass in the core and the Athena on the rim, the Aphrodite sits right in the middle. This ensures a very forgiving spin. Combined with the heavy olive wood, you get a spindle that rotates with plenty of authority and stays very stable.

  • The Shaft: Hickory with the smart taper to keep your single in place.
