Description
Corriedale is a versatile wool, popular with both new and experienced spinners. It offers a well-balanced mix of strength, resilience, and softness, making it pleasant to handle, easy to spin, and durable enough for long-lasting projects.
Spinning experience
Corriedale is one of the most beginner-friendly wools. Its staple length averages 8–12 cm: long enough not to snap too easily, yet short enough to draft without effort. The fiber’s medium micron count also makes it ideal for learning. Very fine fibers, such as merino, have such tiny scales that they provide little grip, while Corriedale’s scales are more pronounced, giving spinners better control.
The distinct crimp (natural waviness) adds elasticity and grip, making drafting smooth and predictable. The resulting yarn is elastic, strong, and versatile – perfect for socks, sweaters, and accessories.
Key properties
Suitable tools
Corriedale can be spun on both spindles and spinning wheels. Its medium staple length and distinct crimp make it easy to control. Almost any spindle size will work; a size 2 or 3 Turkish spindle is ideal for all-purpose yarns.
