How to Spin Stripy Start Merino Top

The vertical color stripes offer endless opportunities to experiment with spinning techniques, creating different visual effects in your yarn. Spinning this blend from the fold or from rolags/fauxlags helps maintain the distinct colors in the fiber, resulting in a playful, striped effect in your yarn.

Which Spindle Works Best for This Blend?

This blend is ideal for both suspended and supported spinning. For beginners, we recommend a Turkish spindle in size 2 or 3, which offers a great balance between speed and control.
For a loftier, woolen-style yarn, use a supported spindle, the long draw technique and spin from the fold. For a stronger, worsted-style effect, use a suspended spindle and spin from the end of the roving. You can learn more about worsted and woolen yarns on our information page.

Is It Suitable for Beginners?

Yes, absolutely! With its average micron count and staple length, this blend offers excellent grip and is easy to handle. The variety of spinning techniques provides beginners with the opportunity to experiment with spinning from the fold, while the fibers remain engaging enough for experienced spinners.

Wash Stripy Start Blend

Like all non-superwash fibers, the Stripy Start Blend is sensitive to felting. Always wash your spun yarn by hand in cold or lukewarm water. Avoid rubbing or wringing the fibers, and lay your yarn flat to dry to maintain its structure and softness.
