Which Spindle Works Best with This Fiber?

A suspended spindle – such as a Turkish spindle – is ideal for spinning this fiber. For beginners, a Size 3 spindle is a fantastic choice. Its balance between speed and stability makes it easier to spin consistent yarn. For more experienced spinners, a Size 2 is also an excellent option for spinning finer yarn. Because this fiber is so versatile and easy to spin, it’s also very well-suited for a Size 4 spindle.
If you’d like to spin using the long draw technique on a supported spindle (or with your Turkish spindle), this fiber works wonderfully for that as well.

Why Is The Soft Start Merino Perfect for Beginners?

This soft start merino has everything a beginner needs. The 7,5 – 8 cm (3 inch) staple length makes it easy to draft fibers evenly without them slipping apart. With a micron count of 23, it strikes the perfect balance between softness and grip, ensuring that your yarn won’t break too easily. Non-superwash fibers also hold together better, providing extra control while spinning.
If you’re exploring beginner-friendly options, you might also want to check out the Soft Start Corriedale – Due to the slightly higher micron count and longer staple length, this fiber is even easier and more enjoyable to spin.

Washing Non-Superwash Merino

Non-superwash fibers haven’t been treated to resist felting. Always hand wash your finished yarn in cold or lukewarm water and avoid rubbing or wringing. This will help preserve the structure of your spun yarn and prevent felting.
