With a micron count of 25-30 and a staple length of 8-12 cm, this fiber is slightly thicker and longer than our Soft Start Merino. This added grip and control make spinning even easier. Despite its slightly higher micron count, Corriedale still feels soft to the touch. It’s ideal for beginners and also a great option for experienced spinners looking for a durable and versatile fiber.

Which Spindle Works Best for Soft Start Corriedale?
Thanks to its longer staple length and excellent grip, this fiber pairs well with almost any Turkish spindle. For thicker yarns or if you’re just starting, a Size 3 (or 4) spindle is ideal. If you prefer spinning finer yarns, a Size 2 works beautifully too.
Want to try the long draw technique on a supported spindle (or your Turkish spindle)? This fiber handles it wonderfully as well!
Tip: If you’re new to spinning or want extra control, try using the park & draft method. It simplifies the spinning process and helps you manage the fibers more easily.
Is It Beginner-Friendly?
Absolutely! Compared to our other beginner-friendly fiber, the Soft Start Merino, the Soft Start Corriedale offers slightly more grip and a longer staple length. This makes it even easier to practice and refine your technique. Corriedale fibers are slightly thicker and less slippery than Merino, making them very user-friendly. With a medium staple length of 8-12 cm, you can effortlessly draft the fibers without breaking your thread, giving you plenty of time to hone your skills. That’s why Corriedale is a staple in our workshops and Spinproeverijen at fairs!
Washing Corriedale Wool
The Soft Start Corriedale is non-superwash, which means it is prone to felting. Always hand wash your finished projects in cold to lukewarm water. Avoid rubbing or wringing the fibers to keep your yarn in top condition. Lay it flat to dry for the best results.
