What Makes Roving Special?

Roving is created through carding wool, unlike top, which is combed. Carding aligns the fibers in more various directions rather than perfectly parallel. This results in a loftier, less compact fiber that’s ideal for spinning woolen yarns. Woolen yarns are warm, lightweight, and elastic, making them perfect for winter garments and accessories. Which Spindle Is Best for This Fiber?

This roving works wonderfully with any Turkish spindle, depending on your desired yarn thickness. For chunkier, woolen-style yarns, I recommend a size 3 or 4. If you prefer finer threads, a size 2 will also work well.

When spinning roving with a suspended spindle, such as a Turkish spindle, some of the airy qualities may be slightly diminished, resulting in a semi-worsted yarn.

If you use a supported spindle (some Turkish spindles with a pointed tip at can also be used supported) and the longdraw technique, you’ll achieve a true woolen yarn with a beautifully light and airy texture.

Is It Beginner-Friendly?

Absolutely! Just like the Soft Start Corriedale Top, this roving is incredibly easy to work with. Its extra grip and medium staple length make it simple to draft fibers evenly without breaking your single. The airy structure gives you excellent control over your yarn. Whether you want to spin worsted or woolen, this roving is fun to play with.

Care Instructions

Like all non-superwash fibers, this roving is sensitive to felting. Always hand wash your spun yarn in cool to lukewarm water. Avoid rubbing or wringing, and lay it flat to dry for the best results.
