Soft, smooth and beginner-friendly

This combed top is made from 18.5 micron Superwash Merino with a fine, medium staple length of 5 to 13 cm (2–5 inches). The fibers are ultra-soft, consistent and easy to handle—perfect if you’re still learning or just want a relaxing spin. The Superwash treatment enhances the colours and makes for a smooth drafting experience.

With 168 grams, this is a generous gradient dyed in one continuous flow. It moves from deep greens to teal, blending softly with no harsh edges. Think forest light, mossy trails and a hint of morning mist in your hands.

Spinning tips

To keep the gradient flowing smoothly, begin spinning at the end with the colour you’d like to start your project with, and work straight through to the finish. Chain plying your single will preserve the entire gradient as a continuous three-ply yarn.

You can also divide the top into two (or more) parts to create a two-ply yarn with mirrored colour transitions—or experiment with asymmetry for something unexpected.

There’s no ‘right’ way to spin a gradient—it’s all about what brings you joy.

My fiber

All fibres are hand-dyed in small batches using professional acid dyes made for protein fibers. I work in a smoke-free environment and only use mulesing-free wool. No mass production here—just handmade, start to finish.

Washing tips

For best results, hand wash your finished project in cool to lukewarm water. Superwash wool can handle a machine wool cycle, but handwashing helps preserve softness and durability. During the first few washes, some residual dye may release—this is normal. Wash separately the first few times.

Colours may appear slightly different on screen. Each braid is hand-dyed, so subtle variations within the same colourway are part of the magic. Not just spinning, but dyeing is part of the craft.
