Description
This blend of 70% soft Merino and 30% silk slubs is the ultimate way to effortlessly spin a beautiful tweed yarn. The merino base provides the softness and elasticity you love, while the small silk clusters (the slubs) create a playful, irregular effect as you spin. The result is a rugged-looking yarn with a luxury feel.
How it spins
Spinning this blend is a joy because the thread truly comes to life under your fingers. The merino drafts very smoothly, while the silk slubs “pop” up every now and then, creating that characteristic tweed look. You don’t have to try and make it irregular; the fiber does the work for you.
After plying, the silk accents really stand out. The yarn is wonderfully soft against the skin and the silk slubs add a subtle shimmer to the speckles.
Which spindle suits this fiber?
A size 2 or size 3 Turkish spindle works best here. A size 2 is great if you want to keep the yarn on the finer side, but if you want to give the slubs some room for a chunkier, rustic yarn, a size 3 provides the perfect stability.
