Which Spindle Works Best for This Merino?

A suspended spindle – one that spins beneath the fiber supply – with a high spinning speed is the best choice for this blend, because these smooth fibers require a lot of twist. A size 1 or 2 Turkish spindle is ideal!

Tip: Are you new to spinning or struggling with breakage? Try the park & draft method for better control and a frustration-free experience. This way, you can fully enjoy working with this luxurious blend!

Is It Suitable for Beginners?

This merino top with mulberry silk might be a bit challenging for beginners despite its beginner-friendly staple length. If you’re just starting out, you might find it easier to work with fibers around 23 microns and without silk. For example, try the uni-merino or corriedale. However, if you’re up for the challenge, the park & draft method can provide the extra grip and control you need to succeed.

Washing Merino with Mulberry Silk

Since these fibers are non-superwash, you’ll need to handle them with great care when washing. Always hand wash your finished yarn or project in cool to lukewarm water. Avoid rubbing or wringing, as this can lead to felting. During the first wash, some excess dye may release into the water, so it’s best to wash separately.

Additional Information

All of my fibers are mulesing-free. As these fibers are hand-dyed in small batches, slight variations in color may occur. The product you receive will be similar to what is shown in the photos.
I use professional acid dyes for vibrant and lasting colors. Keep in mind that screen colors may differ slightly from the actual product.
