Merino with mulberry silk – green

Description

This is a blend of 70% extrafine merino (16-19 microns) with 30% mulberry silk.
We express the softness of wool in microns, and the number therefore refers to the diameter of each individual hair. The lower the number, the thinner the hairs are and the softer the wool is. The mulberry silk gives a beautiful, subtle sheen to your spun yarn and also increases its durability.

Characteristics: Non-mulesed Merino
Care: Wash it very gently by hand, it has not had a superwash treatment to protect it from felting.

Note: Merino is normally beginner-friendly, but the disadvantage of the 16-19 micron is that not only are the fibers very soft, they are also a bit more slippery making it a bit more difficult for a beginner to spin with than with fibers of, say, 21-23 micron. Moreover, the addition of the slick mulberry silk also makes it a little more difficult for a beginner to spin with these fibers.

All wool and fibers are mulesing free. We dye them ourselves by hand in a smoke-free environment with professional acid dyes.
Preferably, always wash your end result by hand in cold lukewarm water. When washing for the first time, some final residual dye may be visible in the rinse water, therefore wash it separately.
