Description
16 Micron NSW merino “combed top” is just about the very, very softest merino wool available. We express the softness of wool in microns, and the number therefore refers to the diameter of each individual hair. The lower the number, the thinner the hairs are and the softer the wool is.
This combed top is first carded and then combed several times. It ensures that all the short hairs are taken out and a medium to long staple length remains.
Content: 100% Merino, 100 grams
Micron: 16
Processing: Non-superwash
Characteristics: Non-mulesed Merino
Care: Wash it very carefully by hand, it has not had a superwash treatment to protect it from felting.
Please note that while the medium to long staple length sounds beginner-friendly, the disadvantage of 16 micron is that the fibers are not only very soft, they are also more slippery, making it a bit more difficult to spin than fibers of, say, 21-23 micron.
All wool and fibers are mulesing free. We dye them ourselves by hand in a smoke-free environment with professional acid dyes.
Preferably, always wash your end result by hand in cold/lukewarm water. When washing for the first time, some final residual dye may be visible in the rinse water, therefore wash it separately.
Finally, the representation of the colors on your screen may be slightly different than in real life.
