Description

Faux cashmere is a vegan-friendly synthetic fiber that mimics the softness and body of real cashmere. It feels silky and smooth while spinning, yet transforms into a light, bouncy yarn full of volume once the twist is added. The result combines the spin feel of silk with the softness and spring of fine cashmere — luxurious, fluffy, and warm.

Application and effect

While drafting, faux cashmere feels sleek and light between your fingers, so it benefits from a bit of extra twist to hold the fibers together. With a short staple length of about 4–5 cm, it spins best in small, steady drafts. As the twist runs through, the fiber puffs up, creating a soft, full yarn with plenty of bounce and elasticity.

The finished yarn is lightweight, plump, and wonderfully soft with a gentle sheen. It’s perfect for scarves, hats, and other accessories where warmth and coziness matter more than firmness or structure.

Suitable tools

Faux cashmere is extremely fun and satisfying to spin on a spindle. A fast-spinning spindle (such as a size 1 or 2 Turkish) helps create enough twist for an even yarn. The fiber also blends well with wool, silk, or plant fibers for extra texture or strength.
