Description

Soft, smooth and beginner-friendly

This combed top is made from 18.5 micron Superwash Merino with a fine, medium staple length of 5 to 13 cm (2–5 inches). The fibers are ultra-soft, consistent, and easy to handle—perfect if you’re still refining your technique without wanting to fuss. The Superwash treatment brings out the colors beautifully and adds extra glide while spinning.

With 218 grams, this isn’t your average braid—it’s a generously sized gradient, dyed in one continuous color flow. Shades blend gently into each other without harsh transitions, letting you spin a color story from start to finish.

Spinning tips

Want to keep the full gradient flowing in your yarn? Start spinning from the end with the color you’d like to begin your project with, and continue straight through to the end of the top. Chain plying your single will help you preserve the full gradient as a smooth three-ply yarn.

You can also split the top into two (or more) sections for a two-ply yarn with mirrored color progressions—or go wild with asymmetry.

There’s no one ‘right’ way to spin a gradient—it’s all about your preferences and joy in the process.

My fiber

All fibers are hand-dyed in small batches using professional acid dyes made for protein fibers. I work in a smoke-free environment and only use mulesing-free wool. No mass production here—just handmade, start to finish.

Care tips

For best results, hand wash your finished project in cool to lukewarm water. The wool may be Superwash, but machine wool cycles cause more wear. Treat your yarn gently: go for handwashing. Some residual dye may appear in the first few washes—that’s normal. Wash separately the first few times.

Colors on your screen may differ slightly from real life. Each braid is hand-dyed, so even within the same colorway, there may be subtle variations. Not just your spinning, but the dyeing itself is part of the craft.
