Features of the Athena Model

The Athena features thin arms that distribute the weight further outward. This design allows the spindle to spin exceptionally long, even with its lightweight construction. These qualities make the Athena suitable for experienced spinners crafting ultra-fine yarns like cobweb, as well as for spinners working with slightly heavier yarns using the larger models.

The Shaft and Finish

As with my other models, the shafts of the Athena have a slight bulge near the tip, making it easy to secure your single. They are crafted from walnut or hickory. Thanks to hickory’s high density and resilience, the spindles are particularly durable and can withstand wear and tear.

Each spindle is finished with a hardwax oil, which preserves the wood’s natural appearance, gives it a soft, warm sheen, and provides excellent protection.

The Turkish spindle you receive will be comparable to the one shown in the photos. Before shipping, I carefully inspect the quality of every spindle to ensure it meets my standards.

I ship Turkish spindles in sizes 1 and 2 in a fitting, charming, vintage, and—importantly—recycled tin. This tin keeps your spindle safe and makes it easy to take along for spinning on the go.
