Art batt

Description

These batts are hand-carded and made from a mix of high-quality fibers. The exact blend varies from batt to batt and may include merino, silk, mohair, sari silk, and other specialty fibers. Each batt is unique.

Batts are easy to use: simply pull off a strip and start spinning. You can spin them in long sections for a more consistent yarn, or work with smaller pieces for added color and texture variation.

Spinning experience

Because of the fiber mix, grip and drafting behavior can vary. Overall, they spin smoothly, though some fibers (like silk) may require a bit more twist. Suitable for spinners with some basic experience, but also a fun choice for anyone wanting to try out new fibers.

Suitable tools

Batts can be spun on almost any heavier spindle or on a spinning wheel. A size 3 or 4 Turkish spindle works well for handling larger portions of fiber, and the extra weight can help when spinning art yarn directly from the batt. On a spinning wheel, choose a medium to high ratio depending on the fiber content.
